In the 1970s CoQ10 was first being used by the Japanese. In 1983 The Life Extension Foundation introduced CoQ10 to the United States. I have been using ubiquinone, (CoQ10) since the early 90s to improve cardiac function, as a superior antioxidant, and for increased athletic performance. CoQ10 is an abbreviation for Coenzyme Q10. It is also known as 'ubiquinone' because it is ubiquitous in our bodies. In other words it is in every cell we have. Now, the latest, greatest form of CoQ10 is Ubiquinol. Ubiquinol is the dominant form of CoQ10 in the majority of tissues; including liver, muscles, pancreas, intestine, colon, and heart. Ubiquinol is the reduced form of CoQ10 and in the bloodstream, this reduced form has superior bioavailable for the target tissue.
For years scientists have known about the poor bioavailablity of CoQ10. Resulting in the necessity to supplement with higher doses (100-200mg/day) to achieve the cardiovascular and sports performance results desired. I have also recommended these high doses of CoQ10 in the past . But for the past 2 years I have been using Ubiquinol with clients to produce greater results at lower doses than possible with ordinary CoQ10.
